In the middle of nature with centenarian trees and peacocks you will find the restaurant Chalet Des Iles which is located at Porte de la Muette in the 16th district in the west side of Paris.
Chalet Des Iles is a typical Swiss cottage from the 1880s built by Napoleon III for his wife. During the last years the restaurant has been renovated.
For the project the main idea, developed by interior designers Bruno Borrione and Caroline Lory, was to create a neo hunting lodge feeling with a pinch of rock n ’roll.
The restaurant is covered with carpets from ege and the creative process commonly involves suggestions, proposals and changes between Caroline Lory, Bruno Borrione and Marie Bastide, the creator of the carpet design.
The inspiration for the carpet came from the Renaissance, and the involved partners had to make the choice between wall-to-wall carpets or rugs. The budget, quantity and lead-time also had to be taken into account.
“ege was the perfect answer to all the questions. Indeed the rapidity, the reactivity and the involvement of the design studio and sales contributed significantly to the success of the project. Choice of supplier and product quality has a strong impact on the design process,” says Marie Bastide.
Marie Bastide tried to play with ege's advanced colour technique. As an example for the ground camouflage it was interesting for her to work with the kind of blur effects ege could provide.
The carpet designer cooperated with the ege design-team making the carpets just perfect for the restaurant.
“It was really nice for me to cooperate with the design-team because their knowledge is essential for a perfect solution,” says Marie Bastide.
Inspired by the Renaissance, Marie Bastide used picture frames hunting trophies for the entrance and a neo-classical carpet design in the lounge. For the colour range the idea was to have a confrontation between classical design and a male-urban mood.
